1Malaysia Chinese New Year. =)

The other day, I saw these pictures on Facebook; it was the Chinese New Year celebrations at the Low Cost Carrier Terminal LCCT - an event organized by Air Asia =) There were lion dances and special appearances by Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes himself too!

The lion dance performances =)

Anyways, meet Air Asia's own Choy San Yeh!!!

Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes!!! =P

In case you didnt know - Datuk Seri Anthony Francis Fernandes is a Malaysian entrepreneur and the founder of Tune Air Sdn. Bhd., who introduced the first budget no-frills airline, AirAsia, to Malaysians with the tagline "Now everyone can fly". He has since founded the Tune Group of companies. He rose to prominence by turning AirAsia, a failing government-linked commercial airline, into a highly successful budget airline public-listed company. Fernandes was also instrumental in lobbying the then-Malaysian Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in mid-2003, to propose the idea of open skies agreements with neighbouring Thailand, Indonesia, and Singapore. As a result, these nations have granted landing rights to AirAsia and other discount carriers. Fernandes is the team principal of the new Lotus Racing, which raced in the 2010 Formula One season.

Here he is; with the Air Asia crew as well as members of the public. =P

Woman jumps to death after throwing her daughter.

A woman, believed to be emotionally troubled, threw her five-year-old daughter from the fourth floor of a flat before jumping from the 10th floor of the same building. The murder-cum-suicide tragedy happened after Tan Lee Ying’s husband, Chang Fook Hwa, left to repair his car yesterday.

He had earlier dropped his wife and daughter at their apartment in Pangsapuri Aman, Jalan SK6/1 Seri Kembangan here. It was learnt that the couple had attended a Chinese New Year function at Chang’s company in Sri Serdang at 9am before picking up their only child, Man Leng, at a kindergarten at 11.30am. A family friend of the victims, identified only as Ling, said Chang received a phone call from his housemate 10 minutes later alerting him about the tragedy.

He said according to the housemate, Tan, 35, had taken a chair from their house on the second floor to the 10th floor and jumped. Ling claimed Tan was on medication for emotional problems even before she got married. “She would be all right after taking her medicine. Tan had always threatened to kill herself but we never expected this to happen because she seemed fine at the function,” he added.

Serdang OCPD Supt Abdul Razak Elias said police received a call from a member of the public at 12.30pm. He said when the police arrived, they found the bodies at two different spots. They were believed to have died due to severe head injuries. Their bodies have been sent to the Serdang Hospital for post mortem.

17 year old suicide at SCHOOL!

A 17-year-old student of SMK Seri Kota in Ayer Leleh here plunged to her death from the third floor of the school Tuesday, in front of horrified classmates. Sally Lee Qian Chun, a Form 5A student, had abruptly walked out during a lesson in the Chemistry lab on the second floor of the three-storey block and gone up to her classroom.

Witnesses were shocked when they saw her sitting precariously on the corridor's ledge facing the empty classroom, before falling backwards at about 9.15am. She died from fatal head injuries. When met the Malacca Hospital mortuary, a close relative, who refused to be named, said Lee seemed fine and happy when he saw her a day earlier.

Her distraught parents, from Taman Bukit Katil, Bukit Katil, refused to speak to reporters. Lee, the eldest of three siblings, was described by teachers as a bright and well-behaved student. Meanwhile, it is learnt that Lee had posted several disturbing comments on her Facebook page since Jan 15, saying this would be her last Chinese New Year.

On Friday, the second day of the new year, she posted that she had planned to take her life last month. On Sunday night, Lee wrote of a failed relationship and broken promises while reiterating her desire to take her life. However, her shocking remarks only drew taunts and dares from friends telling her to go ahead with her plans to kill herself. In her last post at 3.45pm Monday, Lee reminded her friends to keep their promises of buying her a teddy-bear and a coffin. She also told them not to miss her when she was gone and to take care of themselves.

When contacted, Melaka Tengah OCPD ACP Salehhudin Abd Rahman confirmed the incident, saying the case has been classified as sudden death. Although foul play was ruled out following eye-witness statements to the police, he said a post mortem would be carried out on Lee's remains.

Xin Beitou Hot Springs, Taipei.

Xin Beitou (New Beitou) is the area around Xin Beitou MRT Station and Qinshui Park that was developed as a hot spring resort during the Japanese era (1895-1945). In addition to the waters, Xin Beitou's other attraction was the girls, and the area had the dubious distinction of being one of Taiwan's largest illegal red light districts. =P

Here's the sign that pretty much shows all the hot spring spas and hotels in the area as you exit the MRT station.

AIR TIME!!! =)

Hot springs in Xinbeitou with super high temperature and many sources are caused by the terrestrial heat of Datun Mountains. Thermal Valley is one of the earliest hot spring sources found in Taiwan. The hot spring in Beitou Hot Spring Road is white sulfur. Its PH between 3-4, as vitriol salt spring, translucent white and yellow, 50'C - 90'C, and light acidity.

Check out the awesome viewwww.... *steams*

Feng Shui Forecast 2011. =P

This year houses with a north south orientation are luckier than those with an east west orientation (face east or west). Occupants of houses that face East (E2) are more likely to face more obstacles this year. Those born in the year of the Rabbit (offend Tai Sui), the Rooster (clash with Tai Sui) and the Rat and Horse (afflicted by Tai Sui) are likely to feel more of the effect.

Occupants of house that face East (E2) and sit West (W2) should not carry out any serious renovation works on their house this year. By serious I mean works that involve ground breaking e.g. piling, digging and knocking down walls or structures. In addition occupants of houses that face other directions should not carry out serious renovations in the East (due to Tai Sui and Five Yellow) and West (due to Sui Poh and Three Killings) sector of their houses.
Like Tai Sui and Sui Poh, the energies of Three Killings (West) and Five Yellow (East) can be activated by ground breaking and knocking. The negative effects of Three Killings are obstacles (during the year), losses (monetary and otherwise) and disaster. The negative effects of Five Yellow like Three Killings are equally serious. You should avoid using these sectors if you can. Pregnant women and those who are ill or recovering from an illness should not use this sector.

To counter the negative effect of Three Killings, place live plants in the West sector. Later in this article I will share with you how to reduce the negative effect of Five Yellow. With the arrival of the Chinese Solar year comes a new set of annual stars that affects every household. Please refer to the diagram below that shows the annual stars for 2011. The star (or number) is a numerical representation of the “qi”, good and bad that affects the eight and center sectors of a house.

There are nine annual stars. Of the nine stars, number 5 (also known as Five Yellow) is the most destructive as it brings misfortunes and calamities. It afflicts the east sector in 2011. If the main door, bedroom or places that you spend a lot of time are located in the east or face east, then you must “treat” this area by placing metal items there. Five Yellow is an inauspicious Earth based energy that is exhausted using metal items (earth produce metal and is weaken in the process).

Closely associated with Five Yellow is number 2 star – in the south - that brings health problems or ailments. Like the Five Yellow it is also Earth based and the solution is to place metal items in the sector. Any metal item will do but the item of choice is the metal gourd (associated with healing). The number 3 star is associated with arguments, disputes and legal problems. It influences the north sector in 2011. It is a wood type energy that can be neutralized by fire. Therefore place red colored objects or a lamp in this sector. If possible avoid having sharp objects here which can activate this inauspicious energy. The number 7 star moves to the center of the house. The star is also known as the robbery as it is associated with losses due to robbery and theft as well as accidents and assault. Do not use this sector if possible and keep sharp objects away from this sector. By the way, sectors in a house are measured by referencing the center of the wall up area of a house. The open porch, backyard and garden are not included.

The south east is influenced by the number 6 star which is associated with authority, power, fame and wealth. The number 6 star is a metal based energy which can be strengthened with metal and/or earth based items. If you are in politics, management or position of power and wants to strengthen your power based, you should spend more time in the south east sector. The number 4 star that is associated with education and academic achievement as well as romance influences the south west sector in 2011. If you are pursuing a course of study or looking for love, you should spend more time in this sector of your house. You can enhance this sector by placing indoor plants or a water feature such as an aquarium or water fountain.

The west sector is influenced by the number 9 star that governs happy events, marriages, birth or promotions. However Sui Poh and Three Killings also influence this sector and it is best not to activate it. The north east sector is influenced by the number 1 star. This star influences reputation, recognition and growth. You can activate this area with a water feature.

There you go, the energies influenced by the 9 stars and how to ‘manage’ them.

Take Note: Tai Sui for the Year 2011.

There are 60 heavenly generals who assist the Jade Emperor in taking charge of the well-being of the Mortal World. Each of them takes turn to be in charge for a year. Due to most of them having a military background, they are normally known as the Military Generals, or as the Cycle Gods. The year of the Yin Metal Rabbit, 2011 is being take charge by General Fan Ning.

In Taoism, those whose Chinese Zodiac is offended, or by their sign conflict or clashes with the Tai Sui of the year are advised to go through a prayer session with a Taoist Priest to ask for blessing in obtaining Peace and Good Fortune throughout the year. Talismans thought to protect against Tai Sui are sold in many areas.

In Feng Shui, the area of the house corresponding with the position of that year's Tai Sui is to be left undisturbed or misfortune will befall the residence.

WHICH CHINESE ZODIAC SIGN CONFLICT WITH TAI SUI YEAR 2011.
1. The zodiac that is the same as the currently year zodiac is said to direct hit with Tai Sui. For 2011 Rabbit year, those whose zodiac is Rabbit will be affected.

2. In 6 clashes, the Rabbit and Rooster are in direct clashed. Those born in the Year of Rooster will be affected.

3. Rabbit and Rat are in Ingratitude Clash. Therefore, those born in the year of Rat will be affected.

4. Lastly, Rabbit and Horse are in Earthly Branch Clashed. Those born in the Year of Horse will be affected.

....so, Rabbit, Rooster, Rat and Horse... those born in these years would need to do something. =)

The Chinese New Year 2011 - Year of the Rabbit.

The Chinese New Year - often called Chinese Lunar New Year although it actually is lunisolar - is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. Despite its winter occurrence, in China it is known as "Spring Festival."The festival begins on the first day of the first month in the traditional Chinese calendar and ends with Lantern Festival which is on the 15th day. Chinese New Year's Eve, a day where Chinese families gather for their annual reunion dinner, is known as Chú Xī or "Eve of the Passing Year."

Chinese New Year is the longest and most important festivity in the Chinese Lunisolar Calendar. The origin of Chinese New Year is itself centuries old and gains significance because of several myths and traditions. The Ancient Chinese New Year is a reflection on how the people behaved and what they believed in the most.

Chinese New Year is celebrated in countries and territories with significant Chinese populations, such as Mainland China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore,Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, and also in Chinatowns elsewhere. Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has had influence on the new year celebrations of its geographic neighbors, as well as cultures with whom the Chinese have had extensive interaction. These include Koreans (Seollal), Tibetans and Bhutanese (Losar), Mongolians (Tsagaan Sar), Vietnamese (Tết), and the Japanese before 1873 (Oshogatsu).

In countries such as Australia, Canada and the United States, although Chinese New Year is not an official holiday, many ethnic Chinese hold large celebrations and Australia Post, Canada Post, and the US Postal Service issue New Year's themed stamps. Within China, regional customs and traditions concerning the celebration of the Chinese new year vary widely. People will pour out their money to buy presents, decoration, material, food, and clothing. It is also the tradition that every family thoroughly cleans the house to sweep away any ill-fortune in hopes to make way for good incoming luck. Windows and doors will be decorated with red colour paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of "happiness", "wealth", and "longevity". On the Eve of Chinese New Year, supper is a feast with families. Food will include such items as pigs, ducks, chicken and sweet delicacies. The family will end the night with firecrackers. Early the next morning, children will greet their parents by wishing them a healthy and happy new year, and receive money in red paper envelopes. The Chinese New Year tradition is a great way to reconcile; forgetting all grudges, and sincerely wish peace and happiness for everyone.

This year 2011 is the year of the Rabbit. =)

Traditionally, Red envelopes or red packets are passed out during the Chinese New Year's celebrations, from married couples or the elderly to unmarried juniors. It is also common for adults or young couples to give red packets to children. Red packets almost always contain money, usually varying from a couple of dollars to several hundred. Per custom, the amount of money in the red packets should be of even numbers. The number 8 is considered lucky (for its homophone for "wealth"), and $8 is commonly found in the red envelopes in the US. The number six is also very lucky as it sounds like 'smooth' , in the sense of having a smooth year. Sometimes chocolate coins are found in the red packets.

Bamboo stems filled with gunpowder that were burnt to create small explosions were once used in ancient China to drive away evil spirits. In modern times, this method has eventually evolved into the use of firecrackers during the festive season. Firecrackers are usually strung on a long fused string so it can be hung down. Each firecracker is rolled up in red papers, as red is auspicious, with gunpowder in its core. Once ignited, the firecracker lets out a loud popping noise and, as they are usually strung together by the hundreds, the firecrackers are known for their deafening explosions that are thought to scare away evil spirits.

The burning of firecrackers also signifies a joyful time of year and has become an integral aspect of Chinese New Year celebrations. In Singapore, a partial ban on firecrackers was imposed in March 1970 after a fire killed six people and injured 68. This was extended to a total ban in August 1972, after an explosion that killed two people and an attack on two police officers attempting to stop a group from letting off firecrackers in February 1972. However, in 2003, the government allowed firecrackers to be set off during the festive season.

At the Chinese New Year light-up in Chinatown, at the stroke of midnight on the first day of the Chinese New Year, firecrackers are set off under controlled conditions by the Singapore Tourism Board with assistance from demolition experts from the Singapore Armed Forces. Other occasions where firecrackers are allowed to be set off are determined by the tourism board or other government organizations. However, they are not allowed to be commercially sold. In Malaysia – firecrackers are banned for the similar reasons as in Singapore. However, many Malaysians manage to smuggle them from Thailand to meet their private needs.

Anyways, Happy Chinese New Year and Gong Xi Fa Chai to all!!! =)

The MRT Circle Line.

The second mass rapid transit (MRT) line, which circles the Kuala Lumpur city centre (KLCC) orbital and known as the “circle line”, is already in the final planning stage. The details are expected to be announced in March.

In the longer term, a third line to Port Klang was being comtemplated. The circle line is expected to cover the hotspots surrounding the KLCC, Jalan Bukit Bintang, the new Kuala Lumpur International Financial District in Dataran Perdana, KL Ecocity, Pusat Bandar Damansara and Sentul, among others. Meanwhile, the “blue line” the first line which is a 50km alignment that covers Sungai Buloh to Kajang, via Pusat Bandar Damansara and Bukit Bintang is slated for completion in 2016. The network of all the three MRT lines will be fully operational by 2020.

The London Underground Circle Line.

I used to take the Circle Line everyday - from Bayswater to Barbican (where my uni is). The service was somewhat quite poor, as the wait for the trains are ridiculously long. I always allow extra half an hour for my journey - to allow for train delays, over congestion of the trains and so on.

I admit that I am excited about the KL MRT's Circle Line. After all - it is going to go through some major commercial and retail areas. This is somehow like Bangkok's Metro - which goes through primarily the shopping areas (I guess it is to boom the tourist industry?). Anyways - having a MRT that goes through KLCC, Bukit Bintang, the new Kuala Lumpur International Financial District in Dataran Perdana, KL Ecocity, Pusat Bandar Damansara and Sentul would be really good - not just for commuters, but also for properties in the region.

The Circle Line would benefit so many big-time developers - such as YTL Land as it goes through its signature Sentul developments (I would see an upside for its properties there such as d6 and d7 and future d series office developments), then for S P Setia as well for its KL Eco City, the 1MDB for its Dataran Perdana as well as Guocoland for its Damansara City at Pusat Bandar Damansara.

The Capers, Sentul East by YTL Land.

The benefits would not just be limited to these developers - think about its spillover effects. Depending on its routing through Sentul (which one would think benefits YTL the most), it will also benefit the Low Yat Group (whom I heard has got plenty tracts of land in the area) as well as many smaller developers there. I foresee a sudden emergence of SOHO/Studio developments in this area.

The KL Eco City land - just across the MidValley developments.

As for the KL Eco City, another major beneficiary would be the IGB Group - with its signature MidValley/Gardens development just minutes away. It is already benefitting from its prime location in between KL and PJ as well as the KTM and its close vicinity to KL Sentral - having the MRT so close would just benefit it more! The MRT going through the KLIFD/Dataran Perdana and Bukit Bintang area would benefit many small land owners around the area; but I believe there would be some primetime investor/developer buying up the smaller bungalow-sized tracts and perhaps a possible amalgation of the plots for a larger development?

The Damansara City 2 in Damansara Heights.

Guocoland - with its latest major offering in Pusat Bandar Damansara called the Damansara City 2 would benefit tremendously from the KL MRT going through/near its development. From what I heard, its development includes major condominiums, office towers, a boutique mall and a hotel as well and a massive amount of car parks. Assuming the timing of the development coincides with the completion of the MRT going through the area - I believe there would be some major upside in terms of capital appreciation for the area. With this, I believe the redevelopment of the Pusat Bandar Damansara government complexes might just go through; sometime last year, Malton was in the running for the redevelopment, together with Sime Darby and so on - in collaboration with its current owner, Johor Corp.

UPDATED: Thousands stranded at Cairo Airport.

In Cairo's Tahrir Square Saturday, protesters said President Mubarak's appointment of a vice president and prime minister wasn't enough, and expressed confidence that momentum was on their side.

Malaysians have been advised to defer all non-urgent travel to Egypt where thousands of angry protesters have defied curfew and clashed with troops at different venues in its capital in Cairo, calling for President Hosni Mubarak to step down. Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister A. Kohilan Pillay said people should wait for the situation in the country to stabilise before planning any trips there. He added that the Malaysian embassy there had categorised the current situation in Cairo at the "yellow" level.

In a statement released by Wisma Putra on Friday, the ministry said it would also continuously monitor the situation by working closely with the Malaysian embassy in Cairo and other relevant agencies there to ensure the safety of all Malaysians. It said there were no Malaysian students or citizens involved in the demonstration.

Southampton 1 Man Utd 2. =) *wooots*

STAND-IN strikers Michael Owen and Javier Hernandez rescued Manchester United from an FA Cup upset. Trailing 1-0 to Richard Chaplow's thumping strike, Owen netted a typical poacher's effort before Hernandez pounced on sub Ryan Giggs' killer pass.

It was tough luck on Southampton, who might have found themselves 2-0 ahead at the break but for Guly's shocking miss. But ultimately the quality of Giggs told - just as it did in United's comeback win at Blackpool in midweek - to keep United's Treble dream alive.

Saints started with good intent and Rickie Lambert saw a header blocked by Jonny Evans. Dan Harding's effort was ruled out for offside before Owen twice went close for the visitors. Gabriel Obertan wasted a decent chance but not quite as glaring as the one Guly passed up just before the break as he headed over unmarked six yards out. But Saints still went in front at the break as Chaplow crashed home a superb drive moments later than left United's debut keeper Anders Lindegaard no chance.

Owen, though, soon found his range and drew United level in the 65th minute, nodding home Obertan's deflected drilled cross. And 10 minutes later, Owen cut out a loose ball and fed Giggs, whose precise pass fell perfectly for Hernandez to get the vital touch, with the ball bobbling over the line.
