Mirrored furniture

Twenty five years ago many designers were mirroring walls to make a room feel larger. While that went out of style within the last 10 years, mirrors remain a classic way to work in a room that feels cramped. Recently mirroring furniture has become very popular. It's a great choice that matches any color. It also reflects light, making any room feel brighter. While it may be a little harder to keep clean, it adds some shimmer and texture to any palette.

The wall mural

Wall murals are very in right now, but usually you see a brown tree or something a little more toned down. This one is fantastic! The colors are so vibrant and playful - perfect for a kid's room. If you tend to have bland items in the rest of the room, throw one of these on the wall and it instantly decorates the room. Or, if you have bold colored walls, paint this in white.

Yellow and Green

Curtain Lengths

There are a few general rules for making sure that your curtains are the right length for your window. They should either go all the way to the ground (and maybe even puddle), or they should stop at the window sill.

This is an example of curtains that are too short. Don't they look like high-waters?

Design Tip: Yellow

Personally I find this room a bit boring. But if you love the twenties, low, modern furniture, you can find plenty at Ikea. One great thing about this room is the yellow walls. The colors are so subdued in all the other items that the yellow is barely noticeable. On the flip side, this is one of the only rooms that you can use that bright of a yellow and orange in. The colors work well with the sharp lines. This is one good way to bring in bright colors without making your place too feminine - keep everything else neutral and add a pop of your favorite vibrant color.
